Let’s Talk Colonics: Answering the Questions You’re Too Embarrassed to Ask

1. What happens if the tube comes out during the session?

This is one of the most common concerns, and thankfully, it's rarely an issue. In the unlikely event that the tube does become dislodged, it’s easy to reinsert it and resume your session without any disruption. In my 20+ years of personal experience with colonics, it has only happened a handful of times.

2. Will I have an accident on the way home?

Highly unlikely. At our clinic, we always encourage clients to spend an additional 10 minutes in the restroom after their session to ensure they are completely comfortable before leaving. This practice significantly reduces any urgency or discomfort post-treatment. Unfortunately, not all clinics follow this protocol, but your comfort is our priority.

3. I’m nervous about someone seeing me unclothed—do you insert the tube for me?

You can rest easy—your privacy is respected at every step. Our clinic uses a modern open-system colonic unit, which allows clients to self-insert a slender, comfortable tube in complete privacy. This is a significant improvement from older, closed-system methods where a therapist would perform the insertion. When choosing a clinic, it's helpful to ask whether they use open- or closed-system technology if this is a concern for you.

4. I feel pretty backed up—will one session be enough to fully cleanse me?

While one session can provide immediate relief and is certainly better than none, a single treatment typically won’t clear the entire colon. Most clients experience their most significant releases during their second or third session, with deeper cleansing happening around the fifth or sixth. For a comprehensive cleanse of the entire 5.5-foot colon, a series of 10 or more sessions is generally recommended.

5. Do I need to take time off work for a colonic?

Not at all! Colonic hydrotherapy is a quick and non-invasive procedure, often scheduled during a lunch break. Many clients return to work or even go to the gym afterward. That said, everyone’s body reacts differently—some feel energized, while others may prefer to relax post-session, especially in the beginning.

6. Will I feel unwell afterward?

Most clients report feeling refreshed and rejuvenated following their session. However, if your colon is particularly toxic, it’s possible to feel slightly nauseated or tired for a brief period as your body processes and eliminates built-up waste. This reaction typically subsides within 10 to 15 minutes, giving way to a sense of lightness and increased energy.

By addressing these common (and often unspoken) concerns, we hope to make the experience more approachable and empower you to take control of your digestive health. If you have more questions or are curious about trying a colonic for the first time, our team is here to support you every step of the way.
